The PhD in Mathematical Sciences is offered by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Universidad de La Frontera, a leading institution for scientific and technological development in both the Araucanía Region and the country, fulfilling its role as a public university.

The absence of a PhD in Mathematical Sciences in the region has meant that many of the most talented graduates from universities in the Araucanía have had to pursue their doctoral studies elsewhere.

Based on these considerations, and in response to the need to strengthen the Araucanía Region as a national hub for higher education, the PhD in Mathematical Sciences was created with the following objectives:

1. To offer a doctoral program of the highest academic level, with the mission of contributing to regional and national development by promoting and strengthening scientific research in mathematics.

2. To support regional and national progress through the training of highly qualified individuals, capable of generating new knowledge in mathematics and equipped to produce scientific innovations aligned with Chile’s development needs.

3. To foster institutional collaboration and the exchange of academic, scientific, technical, and cultural knowledge for mutual benefit.

Graduates of the PhD in Mathematical Sciences are characterized by their knowledge, skills, and abilities to independently design and carry out cutting-edge research in mathematics. GENERAL OBJECTIVE: 

To train PhD holders in Mathematical Sciences with a broad understanding of the discipline and the ability to conduct independent, original research.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

• To contribute to regional and national development by training individuals with a high level of excellence, capable of generating new knowledge in mathematics and producing scientific innovations that respond to the needs of Chile.

• To prepare highly qualified professionals capable of engaging in research and teaching at the university level in the field of mathematics.

• To provide advanced training in mathematics to teachers and students from countries in the region.
