
The PhD Program in Mathematical Sciences at Universidad de La Frontera is now accepting applications for its 2026 admission process. The call is open to both Chilean and international students interested in pursuing advanced research in mathematics. Application Process
To apply for the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Hold an academic degree equivalent to a Licenciate or a Master’s degree in the area of Mathematical Sciences, awarded by a Chilean or foreign university.
Have a GPA of 5.0 or higher on the Chilean 7.0 scale (where 4.0 is the minimum passing grade and 7.0 the maximum); or be ranked within the top 30% of their class, as officially certified by their institution.

Selection Process
Evaluation Criteria
The evaluation of applications is carried out according to criteria previously established by the Academic Committee, based on the materials submitted and their alignment with the program’s research areas.
The selection process is guided by objective criteria and clearly defined guidelines, without arbitrary discrimination among applicants. All candidates will be formally notified of the outcome by email, regardless of the decision made by the Academic Committee.
Enrollment formalizes admission to the program, grants regular student status, and entails a commitment to comply with the institution’s current regulations.
Scholarships
The PhD in Sciences with a Major in Mathematics at Universidad de La Frontera offers various funding opportunities for its students, including the national scholarship program of the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID), as well as internal scholarships awarded by the university.
ANID National PhD Scholarship
Each year, ANID opens the call for its National PhD Scholarship, which provides financial support for doctoral studies in accredited programs in Chile. This scholarship covers the program’s annual tuition and includes a monthly stipend for living expenses. It also offers additional benefits such as funding for research-related expenses, international cotutelle agreements and internships abroad, and the possibility of extending funding for an additional semester for the completion of the doctoral dissertation, when applicable.

- Demonstrate strong academic performance.
- Be accepted to or currently enrolled in an accredited PhD program at the time of application.
